Bokura Ga Ita episode 9: Going all the way?

This episode reaches a turning point…or at least, that’s what Nana and Yano were planning on. As so often happens for our two young lovers, things don’t go completely to plan and they end up agreeing to work on making their special ‘first time’ even more special. That is to say, a private and memorable experience for them both without the interruptions and complications of their daily lives.

The first half of this episode was a thoughtful examination of the characters’ feelings and misgivings concerning the current situation and I was surprised to see how they were both nervous about it all. Nana was obviously worried about it but Yano showed some uncharacteristic maturity and understanding, which could be attributed to his personal experiences in the past. That’s just some speculation on my part, but he seemed to understand Nana’s feelings at this point and had very clear opinions on what it means in terms of their relationship.

After all the embarrasment and soul-searching, Nana and Yano decide to save up for making their next attempt a truly special occasion, but also discuss where their relationship is heading and what it means to each of them. If they are to carry on as they are, such discussions are really quite important so it’s good to see they are confronting things and bringing them out into the open instead of bottling it all up, as they have done in the past.

Most of this outing was concerned primarily with these issues but there was a detail thrown in late on that brought the ‘Yamamoto question’ back into the equation. Nana ends up feeling pretty bad about what she discovered and how she found out about it but not much is answered. I could suggest that we’ll find out the full story soon but looking at the slow-but-sure progress that Bokura Ga Ita is making I’m not realistically expecting it for a while yet.
