Non-anime Reviews Archive online

After much consideration I’ve decided to try a little experiment with Wordpress regarding the main part of the site. Up until now pretty much every review I’ve done outside of this blog is online in a ’standard’ website format, consisting of self-coded pages. While I won’t be deleting them any time soon, the self-coded submission pages are a headache to update and I’ve had to admit my noobishness in designing the site as a whole. Sooo…

You broke the internet!

The reviews (basically the centrepiece of CB.net from day one really) are now in the format of a Wordpress blog. There are still a few things to add, namely cover images, screen caps and so forth, but it’s functioning and if I like it more than the current setup I’ll move over the full series, OAV and movie reviews onto this blog to keep the anime content all together.

Feedback is appreciated (the current theme in use is the same as this blog’s until I can decide on a new one)!

For comparison, here are the ‘old’ bits of the site and the bits that I’m considering replacing them with.

One other thing you might like to think about doing is using a Wordpress page structure instead of posts for some sections; if you look at my blog you’ll see I have a whole bunch of pages under Episode Guides that are laid out much like a ‘regular’ website instead of in the style of blog posts. It’s a useful alternative to consider that still lets you get away with letting Wordpress do most of the work.

@Karura: Yeah, the idea of doing, say, an alphabetical listing for different categories is probably the best way to go. I was pointed in the direction of a neat plugin that gives a nested/tree format to lists in the sidebar; it works a treat on the categories menu so I think it can do the same for pages too.

I have a preference for the Wordpress-powered one, but what can I say, I’m biased. Ditto what Karura said.

@Owen S: after over a year of working with WP, I’ve come to realise how efficient and easy to use it is. My initial concern was that it wouln’t let me do the things I wanted to do with the site but just this evening I managed to use the Page format Karura suggested, which allowed me to incorporate a PHP/MySQL query into a smart Wordpress format. This is the result - it still needs some tweaking but it’s the exact thing I was after. Ladies and gentlemen, I think we have a winner!
