@Brikhaus: Yeah, it would have probably become another sadly forgotten title had the first volume not been released in the UK last month. That's right, it's taken until now for this series to arrive! Kudos to MVM for FINALLY bringing it out on DVD over here. I was so close to giving up hope and importing this.

@Kauldron26: Absolutely. Even now 'mature' tastes still aren't catered for, and shows like Bebop, Berserk and Monster are still the exception rather than the rule. That just makes them all the more essential I think.

@KT: This has to be a contender for 'most deceptive opening ep evaaar'. After that gory opening I was surprised when the *storyline* showed itself...after that, I was inexorably drawn into it. You're right, of course: it's the characters that really make this series work.

Oh, Berserk. One of my favorites. Despite the no-ending, I was still so extremely and thoroughly satisfied with this series. When I watched this initially, I had no idea the show would get as involved as it did. On the outside it just looked like your basic normal kill-em-up show. But on the inside it's so much more. The character interaction and relationship between Griffith and Guts is GREAT and makes the series what it is. This is the kind of storytelling that I like the most. I'm sure you'll enjoy the rest of the ride.

words cant describe the greatness of berserk. paired with bebop, both are still the greatest anime of all time. 10 yrs later, nothing from anywhere has yet to achieve such greatness. no mecha, no moe, no loli, no shit. just pure greatness. like bebop it reminds us that stories and characters are what lead to greatness. will we ever see an anime that will ever rival Bebop and Berserk? i dont think so.

You're right, Berserk, is an amazing show with great action, intriguing characters, and a lot of depth. It is one of my all time favorites. I'm glad to see someone blogging about it.
