Even in "normal" scenes, where nothing weird is happening, footsteps, doorknobs, car doors, all those noises sound distorted or too loud ... out of place. It give the whole series an extra eeriness. (: TBH, if you don't like the series at this point it's fair to say it's not your thing after all. I wasn't entirely convinced either at first but after the first five or six episodes I began to get into it.
