@Tom S: thanks. ^_^ The next E7 review should be up in a week or so. I've watched as far as ep #45 now actually, and it seems to get even more epic as time goes on!

Excellent post; it helped solidify some of the ideas E7 presented to me that were abstract and ambiguous. However, i've watched the entire series and the end of it (episodes 47-30) are where i have the most questions. With this being said, i hope you continue to your posts so i can finally get some answers or at least a second opinion. It's a fascinating series tho, my favorite :)

P.S.- Martin, when will your next review of E-7 be?

@deko: cheers. Yeah, I'm spotting quite a few of those, although some are too far into dance obscurity (Blue Monday was kinda obvious for me though).

@JJ: I really like the way in which the eco-fable and social side of things is portrayed - powerful without being heavy-handed. I recall quotes referring to real historical events referenced in the show too - I think it was Bateszi's blog a while back, so I'll try to hunt down the link.

@korosora: nope, I haven't finished it yet. The next two volumes are sitting on my shelf and will get a viewing in the next few weeks!

@IKnight: there seems to be a laid-back 'alternative' vibe to the heroes of this show (that's if the Gekkostate are bona fide heroes in the traditional sense), which is very different from, well, pretty much every mecha show I've seen to date. I'm still spotting a few similarities to Macross, but it goes without saying I see that as a good thing! ^_^

One of the things I've always liked about E7 was the way it riffs on surfing culture, with a team of dropouts as mecha pilots rather than a military unit (though - trying to avoid spoilers for anyone who reads this w/o watching the show - it's not that simple, of course). I suppose that ties in with the anti-war sentiment and the idea of being at war with a planet (again, I'm fighting the urge to spoil the show rotten here).

... does this mean you haven't finished the series yet?

O_O

But yeah, E7 totally picked up and only gets better after SOME SELECT PEOPLE mature and move on.

The whole Human-Coralian situation definitely puts a more visible face on one of the shows overarching themes, the clash of cultures (co-existence, as well as tolerance and acceptance), but I like that it doesn't limit itself to just that aspect and actually showcases it with the normal population as well as the vodarec (with pretty obvious modern day parallels). The entire series is really imprinted with that theme of harmony and in the end it really comes off as really genuine I think.

Same with the environmental issue, I especially love that episode with the couple in the forest. Working as both excellent foreshadowing as well as being a very genuine love letter to nature.

Also, if you think the show has a pretty strong anti-war sentiment, just wait until you see the 4th Ending Sequence (if you haven't already)

Hello, great post. I agree E7 is a really good anime. I believe it was mentioned somewhere that all the names of the episodes are song names.
