Outside of anime I've immersed myself back into the bizarre mind of Haruki Murakami, and am now planning a re-read and reviewage of stuff of his that I haven't posted on my off-topic blog yet. The work of Franz Kafka (specifically The Trial) was an eye-opener as well, and makes me wish I could read German so I could appreciate his writing as originally intended (a lot of its impact is lost in translation, apparently). Also this YouTube video has been immensely helpful in my attempts at trying to play the One More Time, One More Chance guitar part...it sure brings back some memories but if any fellow Shinkai obsessives are partial to a bit of six-string noodling, I recommend you give this unusual real-time approach to learning a look, Buy Antabuse Without Prescription. It's been a hectic couple of weeks for me, but I don't mind if you don't give a damn about that - this is after all my anime blog, not a LiveJournal. I miss the blogosphere like mad and have promised myself to LURK MOAR on the AnimeBlogger IRC channel too. This blog is also two years old in a couple of weeks and I'm trying to plan a couple of celebratory (i.e. trackback-filled editorial rather than generic episodic-style) posts to mark the occasion and thank the awesome people who I've had so much fun and insightful discussion with over the last 24 months. Keep it up guys, and I hope to be properly back soon. ^_^.

Good to hear you’re safely ensconced in your new hikikomori refuge - though sorry to hear about the black denim - and maybe I should try the AnimeBlogger IRC channel sometime. If I can figure out what IRC is.
Verily, D’booru and its ilk are the blogger’s secret weapon when no screencap quite fits. Well, Danbooru and scan archives. Actually, it was a hilarious entry about Danbooru on the viciously NSFW Ecchi Attack that convinced me that I wanted to blog about anime, so I suppose I owe the place something - though I’m rather uncomfortable owing anything to what is essentially a vast repository of cartoon pornography with some useful art scattered around the edges.

I didn’t even know you were a hikkikomori (You seemed to be a closet otaku type to me, like Hige.) But I’m glad that everything seemed to went well with your moving and I’m more than glad that you are back! ^^
Interesting I have the impression that we are watching exactly the same shows right now (*highfives*) except for Clannad, but oh well, I didn’t even try that series out. Maybe I should? Same for Eureka Seven? But I’m pretty busy with Full Metal Panic! now anyways…
Oh, Kafka… Do you actually think that Murakami’s work is indeed Kafka inspired? Personally I didn’t get that impression. Aside from that, The Trial is Kafka’s only work I ended up really liking (I heartily disliked The Castle despite its large similarity to The Trial and I don’t really like America either), but this one book convinced me that Kafka is one of the greatest writers of the 20th century. I also was lucky to read him in german, though
So in a nutshell, I’m looking forward to your 2 year celebration
@IKnight: Do you have anything like ICQ, AIM, Google Talk etc.? In that case, I (or somebody else) can surely introduce you to IRC if you don’t feel like reading any of the tutorials out there.

I actually read The Trial quite recently, and while I have respect aplenty for it as a work of literature, I didn’t find it that engaging as an actual novel. Then again, maybe I just set my expectations too high given its ‘cult’ status.
I’d certainly say there is a certain Kafka-esque quality to some of Murakami’s work, but I wouldn’t put them in the same boat beyond that rather tenuous connection.
Oh, and congrats on the new place!

Oh come, the occasional meta-post is okay, turning it into your daily repertoire isn’t! You’re waaay below that danger threshold where you start blogging about why you’re not blogging ad nauseam, so don’t worry about that. (:
If you have GTalk or MSN I can help you with getting started on IRC. Ditto IKnight too. Is it just me, or is everyone having their anniversary soon? It’s quite interesting to see so many people celebrating their 1 year or 2 years mark right now, but maybe Spring seasons are legendary for kicking off anime blogs or something. Glad to hear all’s well. Anticipating your return as always.
Kaiji has a ridiculous amount of manga to be adapted, (about 39 volumes last time I checked), so there should hopefully be a second season if the DVDs suddenly sell well. But as far as I know they aren’t doing all that well..
Have you been tweaking your theme recently? The absence of the Quicktags bar and Gravatars are pretty obvious, although I like how your custom theme’s shaping up so far. Makes me almost green with envy.

Oddly, that sums up how I feel about anime in general sometimes! Danbooru reminds me of an anime-centric, images-only 4chan in places, minus the unfunny humour and retarded memes.
@Sasa: I can’t be a hikikomori as long as I have to leave the house in order to go to work…E7 is excellent by the way; Clannad is…fairly good. Good enough to warrant widescreen but low enough priority to wait for the later releases of the WS versions. As for the Murakami/Kafka connection, it’s pretty tenuous (apart from the obvious name-dropping in Kafka on the Shore and a reference to The Trial in Dance, Dance, Dance). I’m still quite tempted to read The Castle though - Aldous Huxley loved it, apparently.
@Hanners: again, I do see something of a connection, if not much. Both writers have a comedic streak that seems to go unnoticed by all too many readers, sadly. And yeah, a new place is great, apart from being skint for the rest of the month! ^_^’
@Owen: IRC is all well and good but timezones aren’t on my side unfortunately (it’s been fairly quiet there when I’ve logged on in the past). I’d love to see a second season of Kaiji, if only to avoid a rushed ending to the first. As for the theme…yeah, I’ve tweaked colours and some of the menus to make it a bit darker (I’m not a huge fan of whitespace). The code for the gravatars and quicktags got left out during the changeover though, so I’ve pasted them back in. Now all I need to do is get in touch with that new ISP…
