@A: on the plus side, the UK DVD release is spread across just ten discs instead of (I think) twelve for the US one. If nothing else, it saves space on my shelf!

@Peter S: I don't think the wings scene crops up until the final volume but there's a definite sensation that Eureka is becoming more withdrawn - whether it's their situation or her nature as a Coralian, I can't say at this point.

@IKnight: there's that feeling when everything's going on in this fashion that it's all going to collide with explosive results. I can't even guess at what happens but I get this gut feeling that it's going to be pretty epic. I hope Dominic and Anemone get enough screen time though - they are almost as interesting as Eureka and Renton at times.

This was one of my favourite stretches of Eureka Seven, but I see your point that it could be overwhelmingly dark. This part of the story had a delicious feeling of 'Meanwhile, over here . . . meanwhile, over there . . .', a feeling of different threads - Eureka and Renton, Holland, Dominic and Anemone - being gradually drawn together.

Netflix still hasn't put this series back in its catalog, damn them. I may have to actually buy the final volume, which shows how much I want to see how it turns out.

It's been a couple months since I've seen this particular disc, so I don't remember everything, but the heavier tone suggested to me that they were putting the pieces in place for a slam-bang finale. Dominic/Anemone's situation looks dire, but I don't think it's going to stay that way, and I can't wait to see what happens. And one moment of beauty, when Eureka sprouts her wings, is perhaps bittersweet. She loves him, his acceptance of her wings was touching, but it means she's becoming more alien to Renton.

"I’d say this volume would actually be too dark and heavy-going for some."
Unfortunate side-effect of ending the DVD on episode 45 rather than 46 (like the US DVD was).
