@issa-san: the Second Barrage is coming to DVD soon but yeah, judging by what the first offers I'm really looking forward to the third as well! It strikes a very good balance between action and characterisation though.

@Wildcard: I don't think the lack of over-arcing storylines did much harm either - there is potential for supporting characters to reappear later...I wouldn't be at all surprised if they crop up in the Second Barrage, especially that Russian and some of the terrorists in the third volume.

@digitalboy: I'm looking forward to seeing details of Funi's new schedule...Bring on the Second barrage!

Yeah, episode 7 is certainly one of my favorite anime episodes. Both seasons of Black lagoon are great, but season 2 is where the real money's at, IMO. Now that FUNi has picked up the license I look forward to buying the DVDs.

Good review, your spot on about the strengths of series and what makes it so good. As with Issa-sa I was also in for the action initially, but beneath the carnage there is an intriguing and surprising thoughtful character study. If I have one criticism it's the lack of a stronger running narrative, but when the individual stories are this good does it matter?

Anyway, certainly looking forward to the next volumes and the planned 3rd series :)

Was in it for the over the top action (especially in the next few episodes as well as almost the entirety of The Second Barrage), which is what I usually recommend the show for since, though I realize that there's a lot more Black Lagoon offers in terms of characters and themes, a lot of people either @) don't care or b) feel they're all too half baked and bogs down the show from the violent frenzy.
But whatever, their loss, can't wait for the 3rd season ;P
