Comprising of candid interviews with friends and family and a televised version of the comedian’s final UK performance, at the Dominion Theatre, London in 1993, Totally Bill Hicks is a fitting testament to what proved to be one of the most honest and controversial voices in the stand-up comedy world. The first half, It’s Just a Ride is an insightful documentary concerning his early life and career with clips from old performances; the second half, Revelations, demonstrates his boundless energy and conviction, launching vitriolic and outrageously funny attacks on politics, social standards and the dark flipside to the American Dream.

With the name of Francis Ford Coppola as director and an all-star cast including Anthony Hopkins, Winona Rider, Gary Oldman and Keanu Reeves, this is a film that definitely shows promise. Including the name of Bram Stoker himself in the title also implies that this adaptation is making an extra effort to stay faithful to the original story; it appears that this is indeed the case.

The question “are we sleepwalking through reality or wakewalking through our dreams?” might seem like a weak premise for a film, but Waking Life approaches it with such originality and flair you can’t help but be drawn into the surreal world that Dazed and Confused director Richard Linklater has created. The film follows the travels of Wiley Wiggins, an average kind of guy who embarks on a journey of discovery to find out if the world he is living in really is a dream. During his strange journey he encounters a variety of characters - some famous, some not while others are downright strange - who each give their own views on life, dreams and reality.
